Tisha Campbell Interview Encourage Women to Focus on Health
In an effort to encourage African-American women to take charge of their health by making beneficial food and lifestyle choices, Yoplait is teaming up with actress and singer Tisha Campbell Martin to roll out a new campaign, Yoplait Today. The campaign, designed to encourage women to embrace a new year and a new self, will include Campbell Martin in radio spots and print and digital advertisements as part of a partnership with Essence.com.
In addition to the advertisements, Campbell Martin will also contribute weekly blogs to a special online community at Essence.com through February, updating readers on practical ways to incorporate the health & wellness theme into their own lives.
I've been a long time fan of Tisha as an actress since seeing her in the film version of Little Shop of Horrors. Yes, that long. I've followed her through the years as a positive role model for black women, young and old. Now as a wife and mother I know she has some words of wisdom to share. I was VERY excited to have the chance to interview Tisha via Skype to learn more about her being part of the Yoplait Today campaign.
After logging on and greeting each other, Tisha and I casually chatted while waiting for the behind the scenes checks to be done. I was surprised and touched when Tisha said she visited my blog and thought my son was adorable. We soon became 'real moms" chatting about this and that. I can tell you that Tisha is very friendly, down to earth and understands the struggle moms are dealing with when trying to balance our lives. Soon we had the green light and the interview started
Onica: What made you want to be part of the Yoplait Today campaign?
Tisha: I'm a wife, mother of 2 and a work in progress with being healthy, I was already a fan of the Yoplait brand. I would freeze them and put in my bag so I didn't snack on bad stuff. What I like about Yoplait Today, is it's about taking the time to concentrate on yourself and on your life. I want to be healthy for myself so I can be there for my husband and son's. Being healthy is about focusing on making small changes to our lives.
Onica: You started a blog at Essence.com, so far how do you like blogging?
Tisha: *laughs* Its a very new thing for me. Its amazing to be connected to so many people while still being in your own world. I'm using my blog to share my progress with everyone. I don't mind being an open book.
Onica: What are some ways a busy mother can start introducing Yoplait yogurt into her lifestyle?
Tisha: Women need to understand they have to make the time and lifestyle choice. We normally think we don't have time. But you need to find time that works for you. I use the time during traffic to focus on myself. From there I started using my time to eat healthy and workout. Big changes start with eating right. Keep smart healthy snacks on you. I uses the car's cup container to keep healthy snacks and nuts in there.
African American's need to understand its not about how we look, it's about how healthy we are. My family has healthy issues and I knew from an early age I needed to take care of myself. As we get older we have to be concerned with our health. Become familiar with your family health history so you can take preventive steps and watch out for bad health triggers.
Onica: Whats the next step with spreading the word about Yoplait Today?
Tisha: On January 22, I'll be at the health & wellness event presented along with Radio One in Atlanta taking place at the Riverdale Town Center in Riverdale, Ga., from noon to 5 p.m. The event will provide useful information on healthy living via panel discussions and fitness demonstrations.
Major thanks to Tisha Campbell Martin and Yoplait Today for the interview opportunity.
