Potty Training Tips, Books & DVDs Pull-Ups Kit

By August 30, 2011 ,

Last week I encouraged parents to begin the potty “get to know” process with their kids. If your child is anything like my son, I bet they were super excited to finally have access to the bathroom area.

I found allowing my son supervised access to the bathroom lessened any fears he might have had. Just like other areas in the home, the bathroom became another place he can enter and leave comfortably.

Note: “Pull-Ups training pants provided me with a Pull-Ups Potty Training Kit to conduct a reader giveaway. However, my opinions on the products are entirely my own and I have not been paid to publish positive sentiments towards Pull-Ups or their products. Views expressed are always 100% my own.

Now that your child is comfortable going in and out of the bathroom area, it’s time to let them know what they can do inside bathroom. This is where many parents introduce either a child size potty or an attachment for the adult toilet.

Deciding which one you need depends on your child’s personality. Some children are more independent and want their own potty so they can go potty by themselves. Other children will like a little bit of help from a parent and would prefer the potty training seat.

While my son liked having his own potty, he soon phased out of it and wanted do like his mommy and sit on the big seat. So we switched over to a training seat and have been using it ever since. Once your child is comfortable with the potty or training seat, it’s time to help them understand what to do.

This is where things get tricky. Depending on the age of your child they might be able to understand the “feeling” means they need to go potty. But be patient with your child until they get tuned into the “feeling” and can go potty on time. Since it might take a while get ready to have many walks to the potty only to have nothing happen.

To help both you and your child I suggest using books and DVD’s about going potty. You’ll be amazed what kids can learn from a potty themed book or DVD. Here's a few you and your child will enjoyed:
