Jeremy Seifert Interview for GMO OMG Film

By October 09, 2013 , ,

Did you know that October is Non-GMO Month? Non-GMO Month was created by the Non-GMO Project to raise awareness on the GMO issue. For some families being aware of GMO food is important so I'd like to learn and share more.

Note: I was invited as media to this event. No other compensation was received. Any personal views expressed are always 100% my own.

So I was excited when Jeremy Seifert and his family recently hosted a GMO-Free Chipotle lunch to celebrate the opening of "GMO OMG", a documentary film about the families road trip to investigate the truth about GMOs. During the meet and greet I interviewed Jeremy about the purpose of his film and how the trip affected his family.

Onica (MommyFactor): What is your hope for those watching this film? What do you want to be the take away

Jeremy Seifert: Well, first I didn't make the film to tell anyone what to do. I just wanted to inform and hopefully raise awarness by sharing my families journey. There's lots of information out here already about GMO's and it's affect on people. I wanted to do something different.

I hope people will become more curious, will ask questions and do some research for themselves about what's right for their health and families.

I also spoke with Jen, Jeremy's wife, about how she felt having her family activities filmed

Onica (MommyFactor): What did you think when your husband Jeremy told you about his idea.

Jen Seifert: At first I thought WHAT! I'm a very private person and wasn't sure about this. But Jeremy said he'd respect my boundaries and be protective of the family. And he was. He was really good about filming and respecting our family private space. I'm very proud of how he balanced family and work to make a good film

During the interview, we all enjoyed a lunch provide courtesy of Chipotle, the first U.S. restaurant to label GMOs on their menu. It was so yummy!

Movie Synopsis and Trailer

The GMO OMG Film follows one family’s struggle to live and eat without participating in an unhealthy, unjust, and destructive food system. Has the global food system been irrevocably hijacked or is there still time to heal the planet, feed the world, and save ourselves?

GMO OMG also takes a critical look at the corporations who control what we eat. Last year, Monsanto and other food industry leaders spent $45 million to defeat a ballot in California that would require GMO labeling. And more recently, in an effort to combat labeling on food packaging, a conglomerate of biotech companies put up an informational website to disseminate their point of view on GMOs and try to make people feel safe about what they are eating.

Today in the United States, each of us unknowingly consumes genetically engineered food on a daily basis. The risks and effects to our health and the environment are largely unknown. Yet more and more studies are being conducted around the world, which only provide even more reason for concern.
