Terrence Jenkins Talks Mentorship & Disney Dreamers Academy
At a recent media event for Disney Dreamers Academy (DDA) 2014 announcement, E! News host Terrence Jenkins spoke about mentoring through the program and celebrating the launch of his new book, “The Wealth of My Mother’s Wisdom”.
Note: I was invited as media to this event. No other compensation was received. Any personal views expressed are always 100% my own.
During the event Terrence spoke about his life and how the support and encouragement of his mother helped him towards the success he has today. Lisa Gonzalez, Terrance's mother, also spoke about parenting as a single mom and not losing her focus with Terrence. No matter what she always kept her connection with him an encouraged him to dream.
The encouragement to dream and achieve your personal goal is one of the main ideas behind the Disney Dreamers Academy with Steve Harvey and Essence Magazine. In the below video, Terrence speaks about some of the special moment's that happen while participates are at the Disney Dreamers Academy.
The Disney Dreamer’s Academy is an outside-the-classroom educational and mentoring program for U.S. high school students ages 13-19.
Each year, 100 students – selected from thousands of applicants -participate in hands-on, full-immersion workshops related to career paths ranging from animation to zoology. Each participant learns important skills such as communication techniques and networking strategies.
During the event 2 Disney Dreamers Academy participants Husain Abd’Allah (2013) and Zahra Abd’Allah (2012) shared how participating in Disney Dreamers Academy has inspired and motivated them to follow their dreams.
Disney Dreamers Academy gives participants access to motivational speakers and celebrities who share their stories and provide insight on how to achieve success and DREAM BIG. Dreamers have the opportunity to cultivate relationships with other students from across the nation while they gain first-hand knowledge from Disney experts and world-renowned entrepreneurs and executives.
Participants and a parent or guardian will receive an all-expense-paid trip to Walt Disney World Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., where they will engage in life-changing sessions and enjoy Disney’s magical theme parks.
This December, a distinguished panel of leaders from the communications, education and entertainment industries will judge the applications. Winners will be announced in early 2014. The 2014 Disney Dreamers Academy will take place March 6 – 9, 2014
Applications for Disney Dreamers Academy are open through Oct. 31.
