LeToya Luckett Interview for FROM THE ROUGH Film

I was privileged to interview LeToya Luckett (original member Destiny’s Child) about her role in the film.

Onica (MommyFactor): Tell me about your character in the movie

LeToya Luckett: My character is Stacy, who is on coach Starks swim team. Her love interest in the movie is Edward, played by Tom Felton. Stacy understand Edward and what his life is like. In the movie coach Starks doesn't support the couple being together but Stacy is all about positive energy, she wants to see everyone doing well.

Onica (MommyFactor): How was it making the transition from music to acting in movies?

LeToya Luckett: To be honest, there is some adjustment but I took one experience at a time. My coach as really helpful with helping prepare for roles. I work hard to be be for my roles and feel really blessed to have these opportunities.

Onica (MommyFactor): FROM THE ROUGH share the amazing life and struggle of Catana Starks, an African American women doing something no one else had at the time. In what way has working in this movie inspired you.

LeToya Luckett: I had the chance to meet the real life Catana Starks and hear her share her story. It was an amazing moment. And as I watch Taraji P. Henson, who plays her in the movie, I get to see what she went through. I am greatly inspired to keep fighting to do things in life.

Onica (MommyFactor): This movie is serious but also filled with a lot of humor. What is one funny things that happened to you on set?

LeToya Luckett: I confess I love to eat and New Orleans is a favorite places to eat. But I'm on the swim team in the movie, so I had to watch what I ate. I worked really hard to stay in shape and not eat any of the goodies on set. After filming the movie, the cast left a bucket of chicken and goodies in my room as reward.

Interviewing LeToya was a real treat. She was very sweet, down to earth and had a great sense of humor! Can't to see her in the movie.

  6. I enjoyed the movie, I want to see it again. I am Hispanic and know the struggles we have as minorities to get into golf. My son played in the SWAT(Texas Southern University), so I can felt real close to the movie. This movie portrays only a small part of what goes on in college golf for minorities. But, my thanks to Dr. Starks for putting a small part of her life on the screen. GO SEE IT!
