Brian Astro Bradley Interview for Earth to Echo Movie
Last week I attended a NYC screening for Earth to Echo and told you a bit about Brian "Astro" Bradley who plays as "Tuck" in the movie. I was amazed by both the movie story and the kids.
All the kids actors were impressive but Tuck stood out to me because of his love for friends and documenting everything to share on his YouTube channel. I can relate on both points.
So I was excited to get a chance to interview Brian Bradley about this role as Tuck and find out....does he really believe in aliens?!
Onica (MommyFactor): What drew you to play Tuck in Earth to Echo?
Brian Bradley: There's wasn't really anything specific about Tuck. I auditioned for the part right in my living room and then received a call back. What I liked about the film was that it was something playful and different, something that wasn't being done.
Onica (MommyFactor): In Earth to Echo, the character Tuck is very tech savvy? Is that you?
Brian Bradley: A few years ago I has a Sony camera I'd carry around. I would film friends and make videos, etc. Right now I have a Panasonic because I like getting the Polaroids so I can see them right away. But I'm not as serious as Tuck. He's goes a bit further with spy glasses and all that.
Onica (MommyFactor): In Earth to Echo, Tuck spend a lot of time with Echo. How was it acting with him. Or was it all pretend.
Brian Bradley: No we had some physical time with Echo. For the scene when we were holding the spaceship, that was real. Other time, like when he was floating was added by CGI but we had a marker where he was suppose to be so we knew how to act.
Onica (MommyFactor): What was your favorite scene while making the film?
Brian Bradley: The driving car and truck scene. We'd literally drive and do the takes and then cut. But later to see how it was all put together with the drive through the CGI truck was amazing. That was something.
Onica (MommyFactor): Since your in a movie about aliens, I have to ask...do you believe in them?
Brian Bradley: Yes I believe in aliens but I think aliens look likes human, I don't think they're scary or weird. I think aliens are smarter with better technology. I think everything tech we have now comes from aliens. We're doing things with tech a little to fast.
Onica (MommyFactor): When your not doing music or filming how do you relax with family?
Brian Bradley: Now I'm 17 and on my own so I don't really spend that much time with my mom anymore. I did a lot of that was I was younger. Now I just chill and enjoy time with my friends.
Onica (MommyFactor): OK my next question is a bit...different but I have to ask. As the only black child in the group, what do you want other children of black decent to take away from seeing you play Tuck? These kids are going to identify with you on screen.
Brian Bradley: Was I the only black kid? Wow, I didn't even notice that. For kids watching this film, I want them to see it's all about friendship coming together. It's about achieving something great as a group. That's powerful.
I so agree with Brian on that point. The power of friendship is what gave this group of kids the ability to do something as amazing as find and rescue the alien Echo, not to mention survive dealing with the government conspiracy.
Movie Synopsis:
In Relativity’s PG summer family adventure movie, Tuck, Munch and Alex are a trio of inseparable friends whose lives are about to change. Their neighborhood is being destroyed by a highway construction project that is forcing their families to move away. But just two days before they must part ways, the boys begin receiving a strange series of signals on their phones. Convinced something bigger is going on, they team up with another school friend, Emma, and set out to look for the source of their phone signals.
What they discover is something beyond their wildest imaginations: a small alien who has become stranded on Earth. In need of their help, the four friends come together to protect the alien and help him find his way home. This journey, full of wonder and adventure, is their story, and their secret.
EARTH TO ECHO is a PG action adventure movie opening in theaters nationwide on July 2, 2014
