How I Became the Voice of Baymax in Big Hero 6
After walking the Big Hero 6 red carpet, screening the movie, interviewing the Directors, learning to draw Baymax, and then interviewing Jamie Chung and Genesis Rodriguez, I couldn't imagine I'd have any more #MeetBaymax fun.
Note: Thanks to Disney and ABC TV, who invited me on this all expense paid trip to Los Angeles for the Big Hero 6 Event and ABC TV Event. While I will share about the different events and activities during this trip, any personal views expressed are always 100% my own.
I was so wrong.
More fun was yet to come! I had the chance to step into a recording studio and become the voice for Baymax during one of my favorite scenes! When he first met Hiro!
So let me confess I wasn't sure I could do it. My voice seem to be sorta high (to my ears) whenever I heard it played back on any recording. Baymax's voice on the other hand was nice calm and soothing.Very different then mine. Can I become his voice?!
So how did I do?
Well I took a deep breath, prayed to the anime gods and this is the result. So ironically I sound like a robot. Totally unintentional! But I like it!
So what is it like recording? Well first you have those big headphones. LOL. When you put them on, most surround sound disappears.
Instead you hear the booth guide who tells you to listen for your cues. In this case I had to listen to 3 beeps and then on the 4 beep speak my lines.
If you timed everything just right, your words match the action on the screen. It's one of the coolest experiences. I'm glad I had a chance to voice such a sweet moment in an awesome movie!
