As we move into October and National Breast Cancer Awareness Month,  WWE Corp is continuing their partnership with Susan G. Komen® by having their WWE Superstars and Divas wear co-branded apparel, along with having the WWE platforms “going pink” in support.

I had the chance to interview Divas Champion Charlotte (daughter of Ric Flair) about her involvement with WWE “Rise Above Cancer” Campaign and her tips for keeping active and fit.

Onica (MommyFactor}: Can you tell me a bit about why your once again part of the WWE “Rise Above Cancer” Campaign?


WWE Charlotte: A couple of reasons. First we have a large audience of women and I think it's important to bring awareness to early detection, because that's one of the most important factor towards fighting breast cancer.

And second, my half sister mother was diagnosed with breast cancer a few years ago and caught it early to have surgery. I know how much my sister struggled during that time and then moreso when my sister had her breast removed. Now my sister worries about her daughter (my niece) and breast cancer. So while I haven't directly been affected, family around me has.

So for me, I want to use the position I'm in, along with using the WWE Global platform to reach out to others all over the world and be a part of this WWE “Rise Above Cancer” Campaign.

Onica (MommyFactor}: Besides using your voice as a spokesperson, how will you incorporate the WWE “Rise Above Cancer” Campaign fashion apparel into your own brand fashion?


WWE Charlotte: I'm obviously looking forward to wearing some of the WWE “Rise Above Cancer” Campaign apparel but I'm not sure which items I'll wear yet. But last year I ran the Komen race in Orlando, when I had the NXT title, and I wore this huge pink tutu. It was completely awesome. I will definitely incorporate the awareness apparel into my ring gear when I can this month.


Onica (MommyFactor}: Since part of keeping the chances of breast cancer down and recovering after your had breast cancer is keeping an healthy lifestyle, what are some of your favorite ways to keep active and fit?


WWE Charlotte: I'm very fortune to have a job where I have the time to go to the gym and that's a priority for me. But I always tell my friends to work in an office, if they can't get to the gym, learn to use that office space. Get up every hour and do 25 crunches, push ups or squats.

Also, wearing ankle weights as a resistance. So many people don't think about that. So instead of taking the elevator, you take the stairs. You can use ankle weights while walk around to give resistance and burn calories. It's that simple.

Once you start being health conscious with what your doing, it will just add on to that. It will be, you did you ankle work today, what can I do next week?


Onica (MommyFactor}: Anything else you want to share with my readers about you and your message?

WWE Charlotte: My message is if you don't believe in yourself, no body will.. Keep a positive attitude. And do something everyday that scares you. I wouldn't be where I am today if I didn't over come my fears. Challenge yourself every single day. Whether it's fitness, a relationship, a dream like public speaking. Always challenge yourself!

As part of this year’s “Rise Above Cancer” campaign, John Cena and Roman Reigns honored breast cancer survivors on Monday Night Raw (10/5/15).



WWE will also donate to Komen 20 percent of the retail sales price of all co-branded merchandise sold at WWE live events and on www.WWEShop.com

Komen and its support of breast cancer research and awareness,” said WWE Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon. “WWE remains deeply committed to this movement, as we utilize our global platforms to raise awareness and funds for a disease that impacts so many people around the world.”

Throughout the month, the WWE announcer table, entrance ramp and ring skirts will be co-branded and the middle ring rope turned pink to promote the fight against breast cancer. Fans will also have the option to turn their Facebook and Twitter profiles pink to show their support.

Komen. “Their ‘Rise Above Cancer’ campaign reaches women in communities across the country, bringing awareness and helping us fund lifesaving research, and support to families living with breast cancer who need our help today.”

In addition, a co-branded WWE and Susan G. Komen flag will be flown outside of WWE’s corporate headquarters.

Susan G. Komen and WWE have a history of success in raising awareness and funds for the fight against breast cancer. The partnership launched in 2012 and has generated more than $1.5 million for Komen to date.
