Meeting Cast & Author Netflix Lemony Snicket's Unfortunate Event

By December 21, 2016 ,

To get ready for the tragic premiere of Netflix's Lemony Snicket's: A Series of Unfortunate Events on January 13, 2017, we dragged ourselves to the awful exclusive Netflix event hosted at the NYPL.

Once there we had to sit through listening to Neil Patrick Harris, series author Daniel Handler and members of the cast take turns reading some truly unhappy holiday tales and THEN a special script reading from the new series.

It was all so dreadful. Who am I kidding. It was all so amazing!

The event started with us enjoying mini sandwiches and hot coco (we added marshmallows!) in a NYPL room decorated with Lemony Snicket's props.

It was such a fun mix of scary holiday. Sipping hot coco with crocodilians isn't something we do everyday.

Mister Lemony Snicket himself came into the room for a meet and greet. He took time to meet the kids, ask how horrible the parents truly are, and then personally sign a book that kids can take home.

My son has NO IDEA the horrible honor he just received by meeting Daniel Handler, the author of the Lemony Snicket series of books! At the time he was more interested in getting the book and learning more about the upcoming series. Ah these kids.

After the meet and greet, the Netflix's Lemony Snicket's cast joined us to read holiday stories including Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas before going on Facebook LIVE.

The reading was amazing and each character so good in their parts. But I have to say watching Daniel Handler and Neil Patrick Harris read was an experience. I'm surprised the Series of Unfortunate Facebook page didn't go down.

After all that excitement it was time to finish up things. So they promptly showed us the door out. We left with a holiday gift from Count Olaf. A box of rocks! How unfortunate right? LOL

At least now we're prepared for Netflix's Lemony Snicket's: A Series of Unfortunate Events series premiere on January 13, 2017 around the world.

Based on the internationally best-selling series of books, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events chronicles the turbulent lives of Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire after their parents’ untimely death in a fire.

A careless oversight initially places the children in the custody of a distant relative named Count Olaf, a mysterious and devious figure who is seeking fortune by way of stealing their inheritance. After his elaborate plans are foiled and his evil intentions are revealed, Count Olaf (Neil Patrick Harris) employs a variety of outlandish disguises to situate himself in the children’s path, causing mayhem for the Baudelaire’s and their subsequent guardians.

As the children manage to evade Count Olaf’s scheming attempts to steal their fortune, they pick up clues along the way about their parents’ past.

Along with Harris, the series also stars Patrick Warburton (Lemony Snicket), Malina Weissman (Violet), Louis Hynes (Klaus), Presley Smith (Sunny), Joan Cusack (Justice Strauss), Alfre Woodard (Aunt Josephine), Catherine O'Hara (Dr. Orwell), K. Todd Freeman (Mr. Poe), Aasif Maandvi (Uncle Monty), Don Johnson (Sir) and more.

The series is created by Daniel Handler (author of the Lemony Snicket series of books) and executive produced by Handler and Emmy winner Barry Sonnenfeld (Pushing Daisies, Men in Black, The Addams Family).
