Broken - Photo Friday
While touring around Philly this past week, we walked around the neighborhood and checked out the colorful Isaiah Zagar mosaics on South Street buildings and alley walk ways.
The world breaks everyone, and afterward, some are strong at the broken places. - Ernest Hemingway
I've always liked the colors and patterns of mosaics, but these mosaic murals had extra. While you can see the artwork in large view, when you step in closer, you can see more details and more artwork.
Like with the corner of this mosaic window. After I zoomed in, I discovered so much more. Can you tell which area I zoomed in on? Hint, look for the pink square on the left (right?).
I wish I took more photos while there. But now I have a reason to go for another visit.

I can't tell, and that's okay. This is why I love mosaic so much. From far away, you get the entire picture, but when you get in close, you see all sorts of other amazing visual stories, too.
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful! I wish we had art work like that in Colorado!
ReplyDeleteMosaic artworks is always a pleasure to view, examine, and compare feelings with others. And to think this exists right there in a Philly neighborhood! We need more things like this in my area.
ReplyDeleteYyyeeeaaahhhhh...I am always intrigued by mosaics. They have so many tiny aspects in them that all carry stories the world needs to know.
ReplyDeleteThere is so much beauty in the broken. I once saw an artist doing canvas on canvas. She was upset with her husband and spent hours just ripping up painted canvas and then she turned it into a beautiful piece of art work. Out of sadness/frustration comes relief

ReplyDeleteIt is cool to get closer and really examine the mosaics. This one is huge! I see the word 'angels' on the left. Is that what you are referring to?
ReplyDeleteThis looks cool. And you zoomed out of the side of the window? It was a bit difficult to notice the pink for all the colors in there haha.
